S.254 –
Industrial Arts Building, Florida Southern College, Lakeland, Florida Originally
J. William Horsey Building Officially
rededicated as Lucius Pond Ordway Arts Building CLICK HERE FOR INTERIOR PHOTOS Photographed in 1995 and February
2010. The building is essentially a
rectangle with an open-air courtyard in the center. At its northwest corner, the round
structure is a theatre-in-the-round. The building was originally designed for a
student cafeteria but by the time of construction it instead served as an
industrial arts building (wood shop and metal shop). Later, fine arts were added, and the
theatre-in-the-round became a key component of the structure. Originally named after Canadian businessman
J. William Horsey, it was rededicated to Lucius
Pond Ordway (former president of 3M) on March 9, 1956. The theatre was renovated in 2009 to
showcase the original Wright design and color palette. Pictures of the renovated theatre are
included on the INTERIORS
page. 1995 photos |
