S.126 – George Madison Millard
Residence, 1689 Lake Avenue, Highland Park,
Illinois Built in 1906, this board-and-batten home
is found at the southern terminus of Lake Avenue where it turns into Sycamore
Place. Parking is very difficult in
this area (narrow roads, signs prohibiting parking), so watch for traffic and
cops! Other Frank Lloyd Wright homes
in the area are the Adams Residence, also on Lake Avenue (S.108), and the Willits
Residence (S.054) and its
adjacent Willits gardener’s cottage (S.055). There is another Millard Residence in
Wright’s portfolio. In 1923 Mrs.
Millard moved to California, and Wright designed the textile-block home known
as “La Miniatura” for her in Pasadena (S.214). Photographed on April 26, 2014. View from Lake
