S.098 – Mrs. Thomas H. Gale
Residence, 6 Elizabeth Court, Oak Park,
Illinois Pepe the Dog’s resting place 4 Elizabeth Court Mr. Gale commissioned one house (one
of the “bootleg” houses, S.016),
and Mrs. Gale later commissioned this home and a complex of three summer
cottages up Lake Michigan in Michigan (collectively cataloged as S.088). This is a couple blocks from the FLW Home
& Studio (S.002 & S.004).
Photographed in August 1991 and on
April 2, 2017. A dog that befriended Wright,
nicknamed “Pepe,” was buried next door at 4
Elizabeth Court. A small engraved stone
marks his resting place, and brochures are sometimes available from a rack
outside the home. Photos are shown at

A
marker was laid in 2016 after the bones of Pepe were
found when city workers were digging for utilities. The brochure is quoted in this
article from the Oak Park website, “Solutions to the mystery of Pepe the dog.”
