Ingwald Moe Residence,

669 Van Buren Street, Gary Indiana

According to an article, builder Ingwald Moe purchased the rights to build another example of the Charles Brown residence (S.110).  Within a decade, Moe obtained a franchise to build ASB homes in the area.

Wright reportedly received a commission, but did not supervise the 1909/1910 construction as he was preparing for a European trip.  Marion Mahoney contributed details.

This structure has been assigned an Opus number (0539), but Prof. Storrer has rejected this house as a pure Wright structure (although he agrees it has its genesis in the Brown residence).  He primarily cites the porch, which has very prominent corner supports rather than Wright’s cantilever.

There is a matching garage.
