S.204.1 – Guy C. Smith Residence,

10410 South Hoyne Avenue, Chicago, Illinois

LINK TO DISCUSSION OF AMERICAN SYSTEM-BUILT HOMES

Two examples of the American System-Built Homes two -story model appear a block apart on South Hoyne, this and S.204.2 (Hyde Residence).  Stucco and wood trim are featured in its 1917 construction.  Prof. Storrer does not mention the garage, leading me to believe it may be a later addition.  An alley allows views from behind.

Tip for South Side street addresses: on the north/south streets such as Hoyne, the first three digits tell you where to look on the numbered street grid.  “104xx” is between 104th and 105th.  On the streets below 100th, the first two digits (e.g., 98xx) tell you the location.
