S.042 – Harry C. Goodrich
Residence, 534 North East Avenue, Oak Park, Illinois This 1896 home is a few doors away
from the Edwin H. Cheney house (S.104). An alley permits a view of the garage and a
partial view of the back of the house.
William Allin Storrer
notes that the porch to the left was once open, as we might expect from
Wright. The windows at the center of
the house, second level, are wrapped for renovation. Earlier photos show art glass. The emergency stairs at the right are
apparently temporary – perhaps for then-current renovations. A dormer had been added to this
house without Wright’s involvement. As
you can see, by 2009 it had been removed.
The house has also received an all-yellow paint job. Photographed on September 1,
2009. Project number: T.9601 |
