S.038 – Isodore
H. Heller Residence, 5132 Woodlawn Avenue, Chicago,
Illinois S.038A - Alterations As one of the plaques notes, this
house blends Louis Sullivan’s ornate style with Wright’s emerging geometric
sensibilities. There are fascinating
details all over the structure. The
house is a U.S. National Historic Landmark as well as being a local Chicago
Landmark and a National Landmark. This
building is on the same street (seven blocks away) as the Robie
House (S.127). Alterations were made, perhaps in
1896 (also the year of construction).
Prof. Storrer has assigned that project catalog number S.038A. Photographed on April 25, 2018 and
in August 1993. Project number: T.9606 |

Note the details on
the upper floor wall, designed by sculptor Richard Bock. Bock was instrumental in the design of the Scoville Park fountain (S.094)
and also prepared
sculptures for the FLW Studio (S.004)
