S.020 – Walter M. Gale Residence, 1031 Chicago Avenue, Oak Park,
Illinois This is one of three “bootleg”
houses on Chicago Avenue. Walter and
his neighbor Thomas Gale (S.016)
were brothers. The Walter Gale residence borders an
alley, allowing side and limited rear views of the property. The current property has undergone a
substantial renovation, bringing out the beauty of natural wood (compare the
current photos to the 1991 photo at the bottom of this webpage). Although I photographed the detached
garage, I have not included it because by all indications it appears to be a
later add-on. Photographed on April 2, 2017,
