S.204.7 – Thomas E. Sullivan
Residence, 336 Gregory Street, Wilmette, Illinois LINK TO DISCUSSION OF
AMERICAN SYSTEM-BUILT HOMES Photographed on May 10, 2012. This structure has been recently added to
Prof. Storrer’s catalog of works. I will quote his discussion from his website: This
two-story ASBH house is given the catalog number S.204.7 and is located next
to S.203.2. The original determination back in 1989 was that it was a Van
Bergen design. Later information determined that it was one of two houses,
with its single-story neighbor, advertised in the Chicago Tribune as
Wright-designed. It turned out the mis-identification
could be traced to the fact that the house had an addition of a formal dining
room by Van Bergen. I stumbled upon this home while
photographing its neighbor, and on a lark I took a quick photo – not knowing
that Prof. Storrer now identifies it as a
Wright-designed ASBH home. The house
is located on the corner of Gregory Street and Dupee
Place. The addition of works to the catalog can be
controversial. Erring on the side of
completeness, I will include such structures as I encounter them, and
identify the nature of the discovery and any associated controversy. |
