S.204.3 – Oscar A. Johnson Residence,

2614 Lincolnwood Drive, Evanston, Illinois

LINK TO DISCUSSION OF AMERICAN SYSTEM-BUILT HOMES

MAP

This is the first house off Central Street, so excellent views are gained not only from Central’s alley, but also from Lincolnwood’s alley.  It can also be seen from Hartzell Street (the next street over).

The house was built by Hanney & Son, a construction company.  Prof. Storrer, using the Taliesin archives’ practice of naming buildings based on Wright’s office’s names on the plans or the first owner.  In the Frank Lloyd Wright Field Guide, author Thomas A. Heinz reveals that his research showed that Oscar Johnson did not own the house until 1925 (eight years after construction), so he uses the name of the builder in his guide.
