S.146 – Eugene A. Gilmore
“Airplane House,” 120 Ely Place, Madison, Wisconsin Photographed on August 28, 2009. The house was nicknamed “the Airplane
House” because it seems to glide in air.
It’s a great example of early cantilever construction, which was an
emerging characteristic of Wright’s designs in the first decade of the
century – although this is a fairly mild example when compared to some of his
other designs. |
