S.140 – Raymond W. Evans
Residence, 9914 South Longwood Drive Chicago,
Illinois Longwood Drive is
a bit of a connector road for several of Wright’s South Side designs. As it is a narrow but essential artery,
parking is not allowed on this street.
The house sits on a bluff near a corner, though, and parking can be
found on the cross street (West 99th Street). The house once
bore a stucco finish, but the owners refinished it with a concrete façade
designed to look like stone. Photographed on
April 4, 2014. |
Window displayed at Art Institute of
Chicago, photographed November 10, 2013:
The owner is stated
as “Robert” Evans here, but research found that the actual name was “Raymond.”
Wright had a habit of
misspelling client names.
