S.129 – George Fabyan remodeling, 1511 South Batavia Road, Geneva, Illinois

OFFICIAL WEBSITE

George Fabyan established laboratories that gave rise to modern cryptography and was vital to the allied war effort in World War I.  His estate featured a farm house on the Fox River that Frank Lloyd Wright remodeled into Fabyan Villa.  That house – and the surrounding grounds – are now part of the Fabyan Forest Preserve operated by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.  The house is open seasonally as a museum, and is also visible from the road.

Photographed on May 17, 2012 and March 25, 2016.

There are many outbuildings; none are Wright designs

Among the outbuildings is this bear cage.  It was originally open-top, but a roof was added to convert it into a picnic shelter.  Spikes are still found along the top of the walls.
