S.118 – Frederic & Mary H.
Nicholas Residence (formerly incorrectly attributed
to Frederick D. Nichols), 1136 Brassie Avenue, Flossmoor,
Illinois This house started life as a dark brown
board-and-batten home in 1906.
Substantial renovations and additions over the years have disguised
these humble origins. Prof. Storrer credited the original owner as
Frederick D. Nichols. In 2026, and
after reviewing records of the project, architectural historian Gregory M.
Brewer found that the owners’ names had been wrong, and the original occupants
were Frederic & Mary H. Nicholas. That
conclusion was published by the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy on
the “savewright” website. Flossmoor is just south of Chicago, southeast
of the I-57/I-80 interchange. Photographed
on August 10, 2014.
