S.095 – Abraham Lincoln Center, 700 East Oakwood Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois

Photographed on May 10, 2012.  Frank Lloyd Wright designed this large structure as a church for his uncle, Rev. Jenkin Lloyd Jones.  The building now serves Northeastern Illinois University after a 1978 renovation.  The great thing about renovations, though, is that the area not normally seen by the public seldom gets the attention the façade receives.  Thus, I think you get a flavor for the original construction by viewing the rear parking lot view.

It is open to the public during normal operating hours, and I was allowed to wander the halls.

A giant plaque affixed to the exterior just gets one historical fact wrong.  Very wrong.
