S.043 – George Furbeck
Residence, 223 North Euclid Avenue, Oak Park, Illinois This most unusual house has been
modified. William Allin
Storrer notes that the front porch area was once
open and smaller. Notice that the
ninth course of bricks (and upward) on the front of the house differs from
the lower courses – which were more likely the originals (even though they do
not share the pattern of the brown bricks on the main structure). Wright designed a home a few blocks
away for Furbeck’s brother, Rollin (S.044). The massive display of shrubbery has
been removed to allow this interesting home to shine. A modern detached garage is visible from
the alley, but probably not original to this 1897 home. Photographed on September 1,
2009. Project number: T.9701 |
