S.023 – Francis Wooley (Woolley) Residence, 1030 Superior Street, Oak Park,
Illinois Francis Woolley was an
attorney. Wright – not always the best
at getting his customers’ names right – spelled this one with only one “L” (Wooley). The house
has been restored to more of its original design, with clapboard replacing
artificial brick. It is near the FLW
Home & Studio, but is probably missed by many tourists since it lacks the
later prairie style. Although it is reported that son
Taylor worked
as a draftsman for Wright at a later date, it appears Taylor was not
Francis’s son (see the biography
on Wikipedia, which reports Taylor’s father as Taylor Woolley). Photographed on August 30,
2009. Project number: T.9405 |
